What is the 9 Lives Video Game Marathon?

On February 15-16, 2025 Help a Buddy will be hosting a video game marathon fundraiser, aptly called the 9 Lives Video Game Marathon, where dedicated gamers can play their favourite video games for a period of 16 hours in support of one of their favourite animal rescue charities.

This is a multi-rescue event that brings Alberta's animal rescue community together over a shared love of animals, one hour, one video game, at a time.

How Does it Work?

As a video gamer, you will commit to play video games and stream your gameplay for 16 hours starting at 10 a.m. MST on February 15, 2025 and ending at 2.a.m. MST on February 16, 2025. You can play as many different types of games as you want, using whatever gaming platform you are most comfortable with (PC, Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, etc.)

To participate:

  • Sign up on our campaign page. Sign-up opens December 15, 2024, and the deadline to sign up is January 31, 2025.

  •  You will be prompted in your check-out to select a Team to raise funds on behalf of. Be certain to select the name of the animal charity you wish to support. Fill out all other appropriate information.

  • Share your personal campaign page on social media and ask your friends and family to support your marathon by making a donation to your campaign page, and thus supporting your chosen rescue. All donors will receive a tax receipt.

Help a Buddy will donate the lump sum of funds raised by all participants on your team after the event. 90% of all funds raised are donated to your chosen rescue, while 10% of funds are reserved for Help a Buddy's administrative costs.

Who Can Participate?

To join our event, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 13 years of age or older, due to streaming platform requirements

  • Be a video game nerd, or just simply someone who thinks they’d like the challenge of playing video games while battling sleep deprivation to help raise funds for your favourite animal rescue group

  • Be willing and able to stream your gameplay on a public platform (or a platform that the other participants can view).

  • Be able to supply your own equipment for the event. This is a virtual event and your gameplay will be performed in the comfort of your own home. However, you will need a gaming platform that is compatible with one of the following streaming services: Twitch, Youtube, or Facebook Streaming. We also recommend you have a working microphone and webcam, though it is not mandatory to include your own face in your stream if you are uncomfortable.
